Servo Valve Product Guide
Brands We Repair:
What They Do:
A Servo valve is a directional valve with the capability
of being infinitely positioned to provide control of both
the amount and the direction of fluid flow.
Primary Types and How They Work:
By adjusting an electrical signal to a torque motor or
similar device, a servo valve very accurately positions
a spool to allow fluid flow through a passage.
The control source can be moved "proportionally"
meaning it can be stopped in a number of positions.
Any deviation from the intended amount is sensed,
and corrected. As a result, a servo valve is capable
of very accurate control of fluid direction within
a system, from one port, to equal pressure, to flow
into the other port. A servo valve's signal source
can be via a simple potentiometer, an electronic
controller, or another source.
A servo valve coupled with the proper feedback sensing
device provides very accurate control of the position,
velocity, or acceleration of an actuator. They are
usually more accurate than a proportional control
valve. They are typically used to control a cylinder,
to control a hydraulic motor, or to operate the
displacement control of a variable delivery pump.
